We all know what TikTok is, so skipping its introduction would be better to jump straight from the reason behind writing this blog. Tik Tok, being the most downloaded application has over 500 million active users, most of which are youngsters.
With the release of app on the web, many youngsters got addicted to it. The constant use of TikTok is affecting the mental health of our youth and is leading to a lot of psychological issues. It is also causing our young generation to become antisocial, which is not good for them and is pushing them away from their parents. This app provided them with a third sense of space, which they have created for themselves, and they can adjust it as they wish to. Having their own separate space/place where they can escape from the world and be themselves, their own selves like they have dreamed to be, has created such a satisfying feeling for them hence resulting in an addiction to this application.
Not just a third sense of space, with a mere 30 seconds video anyone can get famous and have publicity. This virtual world is much much away from reality. Even those who have yet to achieve a lot in their lives in regard to their educational journey and career ahead, they have been diverted from their real-life objectives. The fame and publicity give useless content on TikTok. While TikTok was originally born with the explicit purpose of building a community, it is clear from the posts and videos of TikTok users that TikTok became a platform for many its diverse users.
Tiktok has allowed our youth to discover their hidden talents and strengths, which has boosted their confidence and improved their relationships with others. No doubt, TikTok has given our youth the opportunity to connect with others and share their experiences, which has strengthened their bond with others, but those bonds are made with followers in the virtual world, who might not even like their influencer if they meet them in real life. What we see on TikTok or social media platforms is not real, its manipulated and projected to be perceived in that way. self-esteem virtual platform our youth can lose their self-confidence in the real life.
It is well known how powerful the impact Tiktok has on its users. It is not hidden, around the world young tiktokers have lost their lives either in car accidents or due to mental illness caused by using TikTok. Deteriorating mental health is common among tiktokers and many research studies have claimed that. Due to this reason, some countries have already banned TikTok, among which are India and Pakistan as well.
But the question is till when? It`s not just Tiktok, there are other platforms as well like snack Video and Facebook has also started its reels now. Technology and digital platforms are evolving, and with every passing year, we will be facing more such difficulties.
One of the solutions to all these problems is to limit the use of such applications to avoid diversion and parents/ guardians should help their children to get rid of this addiction.
