Madhuri Dixit, the Dhak Dhak Girl who is an iconic actress known for her great dancing style, has made her come back in the Netflix series, “The Fame Game”. The story of the series revolves around an actress who remained the shining star of the film industry due to her grace and beauty, has aged now and her insecurities have arisen due to the mindset of the family she has been brought up in.
There is a scene in the series, where a young actress admires Madhuri for her best acting and that she has been watching her movies since childhood. She stands with Madhuri and tells the photographers to take Madhuri`s pictures instead of her. At the end of the scene, she asks Madhuri to give her blessings, where Madhuri feels that she had aged now and it’s time for these young actresses to take over.
The series reflects the struggle and difficulties actresses face in the film industry when they are young and how easily they are replaced as they grow up. Celebrities are always under the limelight, and media is always after them so they can treat the celebrities` fans with the hot celebrities’ gossip.
Moving back to the series which is an actual depiction of the fame game in the buzz industry; “ How people gain fame and to what extent they can go to keep their superstardom status”. Anamika Anand`s plan to make her last movie, “ Hasrat ” a blockbuster was another trick to save her fame and stay in the limelight. She recreated the scene of her movie and she knew that news of her being missing will keep her trending in the news. She was an amazing and talented actress and through her planning, she proved that. But, in the film industry, it’s difficult to differentiate between the well-wisher and enemies.
Similarly, in the series, Anamika makes her daughter, Amara her secret keeper and she helped her mother Anamika in the execution of her plan. However, as Amara also always wanted to be an actress, gain attention, and be in the limelight, she betrayed her mother knowing that her disappearance can only get her what she needs. She knew that this was her only chance to get rescued from the title of being known as, “Anamika Anand`s daughter and gain her mother`s fans’ sympathies and enter the buzz world. She availed the chance to do her best by keeping her mother locked for forever.
The ending of season 1 is somewhat incomplete which means there is a chance of another season as well. Let’s see what next season will bring for us.
